From an outsider's perspective, Harpuia's expression was dispassionate as he stared at the broken reploid's form. Inside, however, his was torn. By all rights, he should eliminate this threat, this rebel who seemed hellbent on disturbing the peace that Harpuia fought to protect.

But he couldn't.

Because now he knew, and he knew he couldn't in good conscience forget. Zero wasn't just a rebel; he was once X's best friend.

That counted a lot for him.

Something will definitely burn...

Most people thought that Kunsel generally told the truth. Most people never realized how much he lied to them. He was just really, really good at covering it, hiding the lies on his face with his helmet, and hiding the lies in his voice with text. There wasn't malice behind his lies - just simple self-preservation.

Truth in a place like ShinRa was a good way to get you killed.

But it wasn't until he got the company mail that told him Zack Fair had died that he realized that sometimes it was the lie that was more deadly. The lie that Zack was dead, the lie that it wasn't the company that was responsible to begin with - the lie that ShinRa wasn't turning on its own.

The lies that meant that Kunsel had nothing else to lose.

Let's just see how deadly I can make those lies for them.

Danny tried to crack a smile, but in the end it came out too weak to really earn the name. "Funny," he whispered, "how I never... feared death... Not like most people do. I was always half... halfa..."

The world grayed as he held onto Jazz's hand.

"Now... I'm scared... but I'm whole."

Wind through his hair and sun on his face, salty ocean spray splashing on his skin - sometimes life seemed as simple as this. Of course, inevitably that was when someone pulled out a blaster and started shooting at him. But you know what? Screw them. Jak's wheels on his dune buggy screeched as he spun around to face his pursuers, a wild grin on his face.

"Eat this!" Daxter shouted from his shoulder, morph gun gripped in his paws. The following explosions weren't simple at all, and it didn't kill all the marauders. Nothing was ever that simple, after all - but Jak wouldn't have had it any other way.

His inbox was empty. He had no orders waiting from HQ, he'd skimmed through the ShinRa news, looked at all the fan mail from the fan clubs he kept tabs on, caught up on gossip and rumors, and moved each message to the folder it belonged to. There was nothing left. Nothing to hide the fact that he was still waiting, still hoping for one more message to come in.

Please, don't let my last message be the last. Kunsel had meant every word then, and still did, but now... After five years of silence, it didn't feel adequate.

Not as a last goodbye.

Haha, it's fine! But in this case, I was using the number to determine how many sentences to write, and it's hard to capture an idea and tell a story with just two sentences. That's why I switched to paragraphs instead.
