Rage

Dark eco crackled in the air all around him. Rage and pain, the thirst for blood, the need to make things end - that was his entire existence. His ears sang with the screams that ripped through the air, but it wasn't enough. He wanted more. He buried his teeth in his victim's neck.

You were the son of the great warrior Damas.

A snarl tore itself from his throat and the blood in his mouth turned to ash. It didn't matter that the pitch of the screams had changed, from tortured to desperate agony. The man was still alive, his heart was still beating, it wasn't fair, it wasn't fair, it wasn't FAIR!

Oh, and he never knew...

With a cry he pulled his teeth away and plunged his claws into the man's stomach instead. The man's back arched and he thrashed, but the dark creature's other hand pinned him in place. Slowly he raked his fingers up. Blood, bright blood, spilled out from the wounds.

And the dark eco hungrily sank inside.

How delightful.

He pushed his hand in further. He wanted to reach in and squeeze the man's heart, to rip it out of his body, then shove it into his mouth. He wanted this man to suffer for what he'd done. He wanted to turn his world to pain. His claws dug in, ripping and shredding, tearing their way through raw flesh. The other man's screams reached a peak.

Then suddenly tapered off.

"Jak?"

The silence was so loud it was deafening. No more cries, no more screams, no more agony.

"Jak, buddy?"

That voice didn't count. That voice wasn't his. Why wasn't the other man screaming? He didn't deserve to be silent!

"Jak, he... he's dead. You can let go now. Anytime. Y'know...?"

The Other voice kept on talking, and slowly it started to penetrate. Sometimes it was the only thing he could really hear when he was in this state. His body shuddered as the madness began to recede.

You were the son of the great warrior Damas.

He pulled his hand from Veger's belly, and blood, still warm, dripped from it freely. He stared at it, not really comprehending what it represented. All he could see was another man's blood, another life fading beneath him.

And he never knew...

It wasn't fair. It wasn't fair, it wasn't fair, it wasn't fair. Grief welled up inside him to take the place of the rapidly fading rage.

As Daxter placed a paw on his best friend's shoulder, Jak curled up and cried.

Veger got off too easy. B|

And Jak really needed to have a moment to rage and grieve.

You're very, very welcome. I'm not gonna lie and say I didn't enjoy writing this~

The repetition of those lines was perfect, I could feel the grief and anger from Jak and that smugness from Veger. It was immensely satisfying to have him die. X3

And poor Jak. ;A;

Awww, thank you.

Yeah, it kind of grated on me that, you know, Praxis dies, Erol dies, but Veger who was responsible for kidnapping Jak, who was going to experiment on Jak himself, who sat on the knowledge of who Jak was, kicked him out into the Wastes, and maliciously twisted the knife of Damas' death in Jak's gut? All he got was a furry body and a potentially uncomfortable life as Kleiver's sidekick. B|

Yes. Poor Jak. I still insist it's not fair. ;-;

Thank you for writing this. It needed to be done. I mean... asdfasdf Veger was the only one in the series who I really wished death upon - more than Praxis for the fact that Veger knew everything, he was responsible for all the shit that Jak had to go through. And all he got was a fuzzy body? I mean, seriously, what the hell was that?

Poor Jak. The line repetition, Jak curling up and crying... excellent job.

Veger always struck me as more coldblooded and malicious than the other characters. Praxis was a man with a mission, and to him Jak was just a means to an end. Erol enjoyed dealing pain, but he was also psychotic. But Veger... Veger was sane and he knew what he was doing, he didn't have a good reason, and he just plain didn't care. He even seemed to take a special glee in rubbing it in when it did come out.

He really should have suffered more than he did in the game.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!

EXACTLY. Most of why I hated Veger was that he has no reason for his cruelty, and it seems far more personal than anything else. Like you said, Jak was just a means to an end for Praxis - it wasn't specifically Jak so much as the fact that he was in the right place at the WRONG time. Erol is a crazy ginger and is the type of person who lashes his weapon without any thought to who it is (including himself). Veger is very calculating and likes to watch the rage and agony play across someone's face. Rather than get his own hands dirty with the experiments, he claims the role of a pious man and calls Jak an abomination for the very thing he would have done to Jak himself.

That's one thing I wish NDI had done - made Veger pay for what he'd done. I don't know if they intentionally avoided it to get a strong reaction for the players, or it was just negligence for well-deserved justice.

This eventuality needed to be written, and you did it beautifully. Veger is the character I hated most in the whole series, and I wish this had happened in the game, rather than Jak just having a little snarly fit.

I feel so sorry for Jak, too, especially at the end when he's curled up and crying. Just reading it made me weepy. ;A;

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed reading it.

I can understand why the game makers had to do what they did, but still... I'm totally with you in wishing they could have taken more time to deal with what Veger did and how Jak would respond to it all.

A-aww... Yes. It really isn't fair. ;-;
